Randomized open controlled clinical study to evaluate the efficacy of Vishvadi guggulu orally Ashtakatvar tailam topically in the management of vatkaphaj grudhrasi w. s. r. to sciatica in the age group from 22 to 60 years

The disease called Grudhrasi comes under 80 types of Nanatmaj vyadhi. It is exaplained by Acharyas under vatavyadhi chapter. The word Grudhrasi suggest that the gait of patient is similar to Gridhra (vulture) due to pain. Pain originates from (स्फिक)gluteal region and refers to (कटि)lower back, (उरू) thigh, (जानु) knee and (पाद) leg subsequently. Symptoms of vatkaphaj Grudhrasi includes radiating pain, stambh, tod, spandan, tandra, gourav, aruchi. My study concerned to manage the disease with shaman vidhi by oral administration of Vishvadi Guggulu mentioned in bhruhat nighantu Ratnakar with topical application of Ashtakatvar tailam mentioned in Charak Samhita.
