Abstract:

Raktamokshan is a unique Para-surgical procedure indicated in various diseases where gross vitiation of Rakta is present. Sushruta, the father of ancient Indian surgery, describes about physiological, pathological role of Rakta and its importance in surgical and para-surgical procedures. Raktamokshan is a procedure of removing the vitiated rakta in diseases caused by Rakta and Pitta. It is carried out by either by using sharp surgical instruments or by para-surgical measures. Kaumarbhritya, a branch of Ayurveda which deals with the details of diseases and management of neonatal to pediatric age group describes contraindications for Raktamokshan in the principles of disease management of children. At the same time various Acharyas described the raktamokshan in management of some pediatric diseases. This article highlights the various diseases along with the principles of raktmokshan in those particular pediatric diseases.
