Efficacy of Kshara Application in post Fistulectomy Hypergranulation- A case Study

Purpose: The aim of the study was to apply the ancient basic principle of the efficacy of Kshar Karma in the management of Hypergranulation of tissues on post fistulectomy wound.These wounds are usually present by secondary intention in the wound healing and yet to halt the healing process due to hypergranulation. Sushruta also mentioned the ksharan and kshanan properties of Kshara in the classic. Method: All information sources were taken from Susrutha Samhita, few articles about the management of Hypergranulation tissue and strengthen with a single case report that has been done at our Ano-rectal and dressing unit of Shalya department of IPGT & RA, Jamnagar. A post fistulectomy wound with hypergranulation was treated with local application of Kshara daily for 5 days. Result: -It is found that the unhealthy granulation tissue was disappear within 3 days of Apamarga kshar dressing. The fresh healthy floor as well as margin of wound was observed on 7th day. After that wound has been treated with a normal dressingprotocol with jatyadi ghrita. Conclusion: Kshar Karma is proved to be effective in the management of Hypergranulation tissue on the wound. Supported with good care in dressing of the wound, maintaining the hygiene and control the moisture content surrounds the wound.
