Abstract

Abstract:-

Diabetic polyneuropathy is defined as a peripheral neuropathy, either clinically evident or subclinically, that occurs in the setting of diabetes mellitus without other causes. Damage to peripheral nerves leading to symptoms like sensory loss, burning pain, tingling, and numbness in extremities mostly. As mentioned above in contemporary science, it is not directly mentioned as a specific disease entity in a classical Ayurvedic text. So such conditions should be interpreted best on the involvement of Doshas, Dushya, Srotas, and Samprapti. With an Ayurvedic perspective, diabetic polyneuropathy can be correlated with a complication of Madhumeha, a subtype of Vataj Prameha. Long-standing Madhumeha leads to Dhatukshaya and Avarana of Vata Dosha, damaging nerve function, resulting in neuropathic symptoms such as numbness, Daha (burning sensation), Daurbalya (weakness), etc.
